And . . . . . . . drum roll please!!!
"The Greater "
A place where homelessness ends
and hope begins!!!
Dear Community Friends,
It is with great pleasure that we update you on two of The Nehemiah Program’s newest and most exciting new ventures;
1. The Wire—a flea market and furniture store!
2. The Greater House—a transitional house for women
The Wire Flea Market and FurnitureStore
The Wire will house our corporate office and our new resale furniture store and flea market. Using the sales proceeds from high quality second hand furniture and the rental revenue from shared businesses, we are able to continue to fund housing opportunities for homeless, near-homeless, and low- to moderate income St. Louis families in our transitional house, single family rental homes and families enrolled in our home ownership program.
We want The Wire to be an amazing experience for our patrons in terms of affordability, furniture selections, and be an incredible shopping atmosphere. A place rich and diverse with high-end low cost furniture that the end users will take pride in. We also plan for this to be a life-alteringexperience for our fellow entrepreneurs that desire to move from a flea market experience to a business empowerment and development opportunity.
In addition to providing space to our vendors, they will have access to regular training opportunities that span from business financing resources and training to state of the art marketing to ensure they experience healthy growth as small business owners.
The Greater House
We are also launching The Greater Transitional House simultaneously. The Greater House is a 10 bedroom transitional group home for women in transition. The Greater House will finally allow us to provide transitional group housing for up to 16 homeless,near-homeless and low- to moderate-income individuals who through intensive program, support, and training can move on into permanent housing through our homeownership program.
With a few simple updates the transitional house will be ready to serve 16 carefully selected homeless, near-homeless or low- to moderate-income women who are most likely to succeed in rental or home ownership properties upon completion of their transitional house experience. Each of these women are supported with an individual development plan and mentoring over a 6 to 18 month period that will help them eliminate barriers to permanent housing.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Over the next several months we are hosting several events and activities towards each of the above endeavors and invite you to join us in our efforts on any of the activities outlined below:
The Greater Transitional House
1. To address the minor renovations needed at The Greater House we have launched the “Adopt A Room” Program whereby individuals, businesses, churches or groups can sponsor the renovation of one bedroom in The Greater House and the bedroom suite will be named after their group for life. Individuals or Groups can choose to donate only $400, which covers the entire cost of one room renovation. Or they may choose to be hands on and decorate the rooms themselves as a group. We are registered at Target and you may call our office for a list of things needed to fully complete one room.
2. Or You or Your Group may choose to donate just an item or two needed to furnish The Greater House from the attached “Wish List”
The Wire Furniture and Flea Market
3. We are also hosting a furniture drive to collect furniture donations that can be sold in our furniture store. We are accepting donations from now until opening day which is planned for October 2013.
4. If you are an entrepreneur, you may choose to purchase a booth or space at “The Wire” Furniture and Flea Market, and enter our business incubator program and synergize your future business success.
Please complete the attached donation form to indicate how you would like to help. Since all of our proceeds will fund our underlying mission to provide safe decent and affordable housing, your support will enable us to continue to rapidly re-house the growing almost epidemic level of homeless, near-homeless, and/or low-income St. Louis families in our beautifully renovated single family homes that are located throughout St. Louis City and County as well as individuals residing inThe Greater Transitional House.
We thank you in advance for any support that you provide and we look forward to hearing from you shortly with a positive response because without you this can not be accomplished but -- Together we can make a difference!
